In 1991, a group of dedicated young people established Bangla School with a slogan “Esho Amra Bangla Shikhi.” The school started with seven students and two dedicated teachers in a basement.
In 1995, the school came under an organization named Bangladesh Center for Cultural Exchange Inc. In January 1996, the organization was registered as a non-profit corporation. In November 1997, the organization was granted tax exempt status under IRS code section 501-C (3). Any donation to the organization is tax deductible.
In 2000, the organization was renamed as Bangladesh Center for Community Development Inc. (BCCDI). BCCDI is one of the listed and respected community groups in the multicultural department of Arlington county, Virginia.
